Newlywed Couple Beheaded by Family for Marrying for Love The murders follow a spate of honor killings in Pakistan, all of which have been met with no resistance. Few arrests have been made.

A newlywed couple in the Punjab province Pakistan who married for love was beheaded by the wife’s family in a gruesome attack. According to the initial police report, Sajjad Ahmed, 27, married Muafia Bibi, 23, after the two met and fell in love.

The murders follow a spate of honor killings in Pakistan, all of which have been met with no resistance. Few arrests have been made.

Ahmed and Bibi’s marriage had taken place against the wishes of Bibi’s family, who had threatened to kill them.

 According to news and police reports, the couple had moved to Ahmed’s village where Bibi’s family sought them out. On Friday, seven members of Bibi’s family, including her father and an uncle, stormed their house, pushed them into a waiting van and took them to an outhouse in Bibi’s village.

The family members then tied up the couple’s arms and legs, cut off their heads in public and then fled. No one in the village attempted to stop the murder or their escape.

Police gave the couple’s bodies to Ahmed’s family for burial, which had to take place with police protection.

In another gruesome honor killing in Pakistan, a couple who had married for love were killed – along with their 30-month old child -- by the wife’s brothers in Quetta. Ulfat Bibi and Noor Muhammad had eloped six years previously and had been in hiding all the years since their marriage.

Nevertheless, the wife’s three brothers managed to track down the couple, enter their house and strangle the family. Neighbors informed the police after a bad odor was found to be emanating from their house.

The head constable at the police control room in Quetta, Abdul Hameed Mengal named the brothers and called the murders “honor killings,” although no arrests have been made.

In the Mandi Bahauddin district, also located in the Punjab Province, another girl who had married for love was burned to death, allegedly by her parents and her brother. The girl had married had been married for a while. She was recently contacted by her family, who told her they had forgiven her.
